April was an unusual month. While I did get a few photos of birds and the emerging spring flowers, my favorite part was processing some photos in Black & White.
The experiment started when someone asked if I had any photos of goats. I don't. Didn't. But I knew where to get them. Down the road is a farm par, Springton Manor Farm, a county park that is known for its farm animals and as a spot for pretty weddings.
I knew that some folks also went there for bird photography, so I figured if nothing else, I could do a little hike there and see some birds. But, the farm animals were fun to shoot. Lots of little critters, with my favorite being the farm cats.
I usually resist shooting rural scenes. There are tons of good rural landscape shots around me, but I never stop to take them. I am not sure why, it just doesn't appeal to me. However, my shots from Springton Manor may change that. What I found, in my own psychological play, was that I really liked these shots better processed in B&W. So, maybe that is my switch that will allow me to negotiate with myself the occasional rural landscape scene. I'll take them, but only process in B&W. Not sure why this makes sense to me, but I am sticking with this plan and we'll see how it goes.
Also went to the dog park one day with the Minolta 35mm f/1.4. Same thing. In my mind, they just sang in B&W.
